Today’s View: back to work
It has been almost 4 weeks since my last patient flight. Me not flying
is like an endorphin addicted runner having a broken ankle.
Yes, I am blogging the old fashioned way: pen and Moleskine notebook.

No, this IS NOT the same photo I posted of the snow from a few months
ago! They are forcasting 2-4″ for tonight. Yes, 27 March. Geesh!
Finally, we have blue skies in Michigan! For those of you familiar
with the mitten state, we are flying north and that is indeed Lake
Michigan on the horizon. A view I haven’t seen in months.
Nice day for a scene flight and a dose of Epi…for the flight nurse,
hopefully not the patient!
WooHoo, it is good to be back doing what I love, and ‘playing the
game’ so I have something to blog about.
There is just something cool about an entire freeway being shut down
awaiting our arrival.

We sometimes play host to other flight companies. Tonight the fixed
wing from up north came down to take a pediatric patient to Chicago.
Our flight communicators do a ton of coordination work to make sure
everything goes smoothly. From l-r local ambulance, King Air plane and
Mike, my favorite flight com person!
Yes dear reader, you are correct. This is NOT the window of our
aircraft. And YES dear boss, that is Flight Doc Steve driving the
truck, plowing snow on the flight line. He WAS supervised and I was
there providing ‘medical coverage.’ Ok, and some back seat taunting…
Happiness is being back up in the air.
So, it wasn’t taken from as high of an altitude as I usually post, but
the view my front door is simply incredible. My shift last night had
the makings of insanity, but the weather kept us on the ground,
inside, cozy and, most importantly, safe. The ride home in the early
light was amazing as is the view out every window of the HTL (the
nickname of my house).
The weather finally cleared up enough this morning for us to fly.
Fortunately for our patient it stayed clear as our first request
didn’t come until 4 p.m.
This photo was taken on our way to the sending hospital over one of
the small airports scattered around the state.
Yes, that IS a farm on the edge of the runway!
This is a look at the first real snow of the year from the window of
the FRN (flight registered nurse) quarters. Seems like a Michigan girl
would be smart enough to put a window scraper in her car. But alas, it
is not so.
Paul, please tell me again why Sylvia didn’t come with heated seats?
But I digress. No flights are in my future for this night shift.
Hopefully the view from my office window will not be out the back door
of an ambulance!
