I was humbled a few nights ago to have received an email from Dr. Richard Pryor, brother of MAJ John Pryor, M.D., who died while serving in Iraq on Christmas Day.

Thank you to everyone who left comments, and sent emails. As per Dr. Pryor’s request, here is the link to a web site created to honor his memory and spread the word as to his public wake, visitation and funeral mass.

Although I will not be able to attend in body, I will be in uniform this weekend, thinking of him, his colleagues and family often.

I challenge each of you to honor him by thanking a soldier for their sacrifice. And if the opportunity presents thank their family as well.

That is so sad. Thank you for sharing it with the rest of us. The real tragedy is that there are many people in our daily lives who have heroic stories that we often do not find out about until it is too late to thank them.

    God speed Maj. Pryor.

It was a lovely, though extremely sad, service. There was a sea of colors- ACUs, Army green, Army blue, police blue, Air Force blue, Navy blue, and of course Medical Corps maroon. There were several CMBs in evidence, and importantly, many stars (a Brigadier, Major, and Lieutenant General).

    A fitting send-off for a hero.

I’m a dialysis nurse at HUP and Neuro Trauma is one of the floors I get to. Many times I’ve gotten to listen in on Dr. Pryors rounds when I was dialzing there patient at the time. He was always inclusive and would even ask for my opinion. Amazing class act. There is now a memorial banner in the hallway of Neuro Trauma ICU with hundreds of messages.
