Cherry Blossom Festival

Every year, Washington DC celebrates the gift by the Japanese government of 3000 cherry trees in 1912. I was fortunate enough to be in DC almost at the peak of the blossoms which exploded along the National Mall and around the Jefferson Monument.

Although spring is definitely here, the sluggish trees are just beginning to show signs of buds which will turn into the beautiful wave of green which proclaims an end to winter. I believe the cherry blossoms, which are a gorgeous interlude to the full bloom of spring, come just a bit earlier than the rest . . . just to show off.
