Do I love Hometown EMS???

This is something that I am having to deal with now that I have returned to Small Town America. Although I intellectually told myself that this type of situation was bound to occur, I found myself very unprepared when it finally did.

The father of someone I went to high school with had a life altering accident. I found his name on my patient list at 0600. I spent the next 2 hours mulling the ethics in my acting as Nurse Practitioner for him and his family.

It was an emotionally rough day for all of us. By the end I realized what an important thing friends, neighbors and families are, most especially during times of crisis. They welcomed my presence and help with gratitude.

Two cocktails and I am under the table (or at least feeling little pain). Although it isn’t the mind and emotion numbing diet of Krispy Kremes and scotch, a few drinks at dinner with my sister has put me in a better mood.

All of this to celebrate the final bank payment settling the debt from my past life.

Can you imagine what I will do when my student loans are paid off? (only 9 of 15+ to go!)

Wow, I have been attempting to catch up on my blog reading and have decided that I am just WAY too behind! Where have the past few weeks gone?

This weekend I have spent much time on reorganizing and re-prioritizing my life. I have spent long conversations with Patrick about what we will be doing when he gets home (be back from Iraq on 13 September!), walking my dog to exhaustion, and breaking in my new computer (sorry dad, bought a Mac!).
