Nurses: Health Role Models
As a group, we are the pot calling the kettle black.
Mediblogopathyposted here about Tobacco free Nurses, a smoking cessation site aimed at nurses and student nurses. The hope? We will be living the life of health that we preach every day.
Hypocritical healthcare has been a pet peeve for a very long time.
What about the respiratory therapists who smoke?
What about the obese nurses?
Anesthesia providers being addicts?
This list could get very long, very fast. I think I am going to go eat a carrot and run 5 miles.
i will run with you and share the carrot, okay?

This was the only support group I’ve noticed for any of these problems. I couldn’t believe that 18% of nurses smoke! No one I work with does – as far as I know.
I think it would be difficult to try and teach a patient about smoking cessation if a nurse was, for instance, an alcoholic or obese or a smoker herself (not to mention a nurse that has all of those problems…)
I think I’ll look around and see what other support systems I can find. I’d imagine they must be somewhere.
If I made a logo-link badge linking to that smoke-free nurses site, would you guys want to put it up on your sites too? Just a little one like the nurseblogs link.

The national average of smoking in the US was 22.5% per the MMWR. http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5320a2.htm
At least it is less than the general population!
HypnoKitten—I will definately post it if you build it!

I am one of the few nurses at my facility that doesn’t smoke. It’s pretty bad when they come back from the MANY breaks they take and smell like disgusting ashtrays! I have told people that maybe I’ll take up “smoking” those little candy cigarettes so I can get away from the floor too!! Just kidding!
I would feel too guilty leaving the floor that often.
