In the middle of Hurricane Charley

It never fails, every time I take a trip, the weather is shitty. This trip, however, is the ultimate.

Oh weather gods, what, oh what have I done to piss you off so??

Oh, yeah, I am in Orlando and Hurricane Charley is starting to roll through. Brilliant me is on the 15th floor watching it come. The winds have been as much as 145 mph. I don’t believe they are quite that bad here, but it is amazing to think that on one of my last skydives, my average fall rate was right around 135 mph. Puts the storm in perspective.

The hotel still has power, obviously, but we are definately rockin’. The sliding glass door is whistling and there is a draft down the ventilation system. The palm trees are getting whipped. I just peaked out through the curtains and the whole window shook. Maybe I shouldn’t be so curious. The red portion of the storm on radar (per the local news channel) is still south of Orlando. I suppose that means that the worst is to come. I generally give a giant piss off to stuff like this, but my room has a floor to ceiling window/sliding glass door along the whole thing. Moving to the other side of the bed, at least, might be a better idea. At least I am not as stupid as the people still driving in this mess. All I have to say is Darwin Awards.

The things I do for fun.

Waiting on Room Service

I have decided that I want to live at the Marriott. You could conduct your entire life from the inside of one. You have maid service, internet, cable, laundry…the list is endless. Most importantly, however, is room service. I could so get used to this.

For those interested, Patrick is able to post to his blog now. Hopefully when he gets settled in he will post more indepthly (is that a word Chris?). Not that, you know, my stuff is profound or anything!

School is essentially over for me, my other half should be arriving in Kuwait right about now, and I have now idea what I am going to do with myself for the next year while he is gone. Does anyone have any suggestions? How strange to have the past 10 years planned out and get to the end to find a really big cliff and about 3 inches of space before the edge. I guess it is time for me to start BASE jumping, huh? We shall see…we shall see.

BLACKFIVE: Showdown Part 8 – Uncommon Valor as a Common Virtue

Well, Pa12ick (my better half) will be off as of Thursday for Fallujah as a civilian contractor. Although his days in the Army were limited, he just couldn’t stay away. Reading posts like these from Blackfive kept pulling him back to serve in some capacity. Now, he will be supervising distribution of chow for 1/3 of the Coalition Forces. Funny that he beat 2LT Nurse Crazygirl over there. Now, I will be the one staying home counting the days until my love returns…..or I will get antsy and meet him there…..

Until then, he will hopefully have Internet access. He is armed with a digital camera and has a blog in his name. I will post a link when he has the chance to write.

I am so proud of him my heart hurts.

MSNBC – Recycling cell phones for a great cause

I usually don’t get too excited about this kind of thing, but I found 3 cellphones while going through our junk during the move. They have been in a box, just waiting for something like this.
